MELFA, Va. and SAN JOSE, Ca. –The aerospace industry has landed in Silicon Valley, and Luminary Air Group (“Luminary”) is excited to be part of it. A3 by Airbus Group (“A3”) is the French Aerospace company’s innovation arm tasked with developing new concepts for the industry. Recognizing the impact of new technologies such as additive manufacturing (3D printing), machine learning, and virtual/augmented reality, Airbus established A3 with the goal of defining the future of flight.
One of A3’s projects is called Transpose, an effort to re-think cabin layouts and to simplify the process of customizing aircraft interiors. It is based on a modular design concept that allows airlines to swap out interior components in minutes. As part of this effort, Luminary was asked to produce interior components for the module. One of the monuments was a chair-table combination that was aptly dubbed “chable” by the Luminary production staff. In addition to Luminary’s experience and manufacturing capabilities, the capacity for rapid prototyping was a major factor in capturing this contract.
The module is currently on display at San Jose International Airport. Additional prototypes will be coming out soon.
